MetiVis is operated by Koen Schira ("MetiVis," "we," "us," or "our"), based in San Diego, California. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain information when you visit https://metivis.com, request private-beta access, communicate with us, or use a MetiVis learning beta that links to this Policy (collectively, the "Services").

At a glance

  • You can read the public website without creating an account. Hosting and security providers still process the technical information needed to deliver and protect it.
  • The public website does not accept or process homework. The beta form collects only the information shown in that form.
  • If you are invited to an enabled learning-beta feature, it processes the work and responses you submit and may create learning records or send relevant content to service providers needed to perform that feature. A feature described on the website may still be unavailable or disconnected during the private beta.
  • We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • You can make a privacy request or email support@metivis.com. A deletion request begins a verified review; it does not instantly erase every record.

1. Who the Services are for

The public website and private-beta list are intended for people 17 years of age or older. They are not directed to children under 13. Eligibility for a learning beta may be narrower and will be stated in the applicable invitation or program terms.

If you are under 17, do not join the private-beta list or submit personal information to us. If we learn that we collected personal information from a person who was not eligible to provide it, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.

If you are 17 but have not reached the age of legal majority where you live, the Terms of Use require permission from a parent or legal guardian. An age statement is not a parental-consent system, and MetiVis does not currently offer an under-13 service.

2. Information we collect

What we collect depends on how you use MetiVis.

Public website and private-beta list

We may collect:

  • your email address;
  • your confirmation that you meet the stated age requirement;
  • your request to receive private-beta access messages;
  • whether you separately choose occasional product updates;
  • an optional description of what you would like help learning;
  • policy and consent versions, signup status, and related timestamps;
  • source page, referring website host, campaign parameters in the link you followed, viewport category, and a small set of first-party events such as page view or successful signup;
  • email delivery, bounce, complaint, unsubscribe, and suppression status;
  • information you provide in a contact or privacy request.

Our first-party website-event records are designed not to contain your email address, free-text learning interest, raw IP address, full user-agent string, or a persistent browser fingerprint. Hosting, network, security, email, and anti-abuse providers may still process request and device information needed to provide and protect their services.

Account and profile

If you receive learning-app access, we may collect account identifiers, email, authentication and session records, display name, invitation/access state, onboarding state, preferences, and accepted policy versions.

Work and source material you submit

Depending on the feature you use, we may process:

  • assignment titles, subjects, questions, goals, deadlines, and other context you provide;
  • text, links, documents, PDFs, photographs, images, or source references you submit;
  • file and processing metadata such as file name, type, size, page count, hash, processing status, and expiry state;
  • text extracted from submitted material and source-safe summaries or references created from it;
  • short voice recordings you intentionally submit for transcription and the resulting transcript.

The audited voice-transcription path sends audio to a transcription provider and does not save the raw recording in that function. The returned text can then be processed like other learner input. MetiVis does not use voice recordings to create a voiceprint or identify you biometrically.

Remove unnecessary names, student numbers, grades belonging to other people, and other private information before submitting coursework. Do not submit Social Security numbers, government identifiers, financial credentials, medical records, passwords, or other highly sensitive information that the learning task does not require.

Learning activity and inferences, when enabled

We may process your answers, attempts, explanations, interactions, tutor responses, feedback, and activity in order to provide the learning experience. We may create records and inferences such as:

  • concepts or capabilities you have worked on;
  • what you appear to understand or need help with;
  • where an answer or explanation broke down;
  • prerequisites or teaching steps that may be useful;
  • progress, source-safe answer summaries, and product-quality evaluations;
  • what MetiVis should ask you to revisit and when;
  • Remembering schedules, sessions, workload estimates, completion state, and evidence that a capability was used or maintained.

These are product estimates used to personalize learning. They can be incomplete or wrong. They are not official grades, medical or psychological assessments, or school admission, discipline, or eligibility decisions.

Optional reminders, when enabled

If you enable browser push reminders, we may process a push endpoint, browser/provider keys, a protected endpoint identifier, timezone, quiet-hour preference, subscription state, and delivery/receipt status. Notification content is designed to be generic rather than expose assignment or learning details on a lock screen. You can disable browser notifications in your device or browser settings.

Support, feedback, and research

We may collect support messages, structured product feedback, optional comments, bug reports, and context needed to investigate a problem. An interview, screen recording, or research-session recording requires separate notice and permission; ordinary product use is not consent to be recorded for research or marketing.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • deliver, maintain, personalize, secure, and troubleshoot the Services;
  • authenticate users and manage invitations, accounts, sessions, and preferences;
  • process submitted work and provide teaching, checking, and Remembering features;
  • transcribe speech, extract text from documents, and process sources when you request those features;
  • create and update learning records, choose a next teaching step, and schedule requested remembering work;
  • send service, access, security, and optional product-update communications;
  • operate the private-beta list and understand basic referral and site performance;
  • respond to support, privacy, safety, and legal requests;
  • detect spam, fraud, abuse, policy violations, and security incidents;
  • evaluate and improve reliability, usability, safety, and learning quality;
  • create aggregate or deidentified information that does not reasonably identify a person;
  • comply with law and establish, exercise, or defend legal rights.

Authorized MetiVis personnel may review a limited learning interaction or submitted item when reasonably necessary to support a user, investigate a problem or safety issue, evaluate whether the product behaved correctly, or improve the beta. We do not publish private learner content as a testimonial or public example without separate permission.

4. How we disclose information

We disclose information only as described here, at your direction, or with your permission.

Service providers

We use providers for hosting and content delivery; databases, authentication, private storage, and server functions; email and support; bot prevention and security; AI and content processing; speech transcription; document extraction; and browser push delivery.

A provider receives information relevant to its role. For example, a transcription provider receives the audio you ask us to transcribe, while an email provider receives the address and message needed to send email. This does not mean every provider receives your homework or full account history.

Relevant learning input may be sent to AI, transcription, or document-processing providers to perform the feature you requested. Provider security and abuse-prevention logs may be retained under the provider's applicable terms even when MetiVis does not request stored model output. We do not promise that every provider has zero retention or that all processing happens only on your device.

The public website currently uses Netlify for hosting, Cloudflare for network/security and Turnstile bot protection, Supabase for form records and server functions, Resend for email delivery, and Zoho Mail for the support mailbox. The learning app uses Supabase for account, database, private-storage, and application services. Other processors are engaged by category as described above and can change as the beta evolves.

We require providers to handle information for the relevant service and security purposes. We do not authorize them to use private learner content for their independent advertising, and we do not sell learner content to them.

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law or valid legal process; investigate fraud, abuse, or a security incident; protect the rights, property, or safety of a user, MetiVis, or another person; or establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.

Business transactions

If MetiVis is involved in a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be reviewed, disclosed, or transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and appropriate protections.

At your direction

We may disclose information when you ask us to, enable an integration or external link, or give separate permission.

5. No sale or behavioral advertising

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. The current Services do not contain third-party advertising pixels or use private learner content to build advertising audiences.

If those practices materially change, we will update this Policy and implement any notice, consent, opt-out, or preference-signal handling required before enabling the new practice.

6. Cookies, browser storage, and similar technology

The public website uses technology needed to deliver and secure the site, keep forms and navigation working, remember limited interface state, and perform low-data first-party measurement and campaign attribution. The learning app may use browser storage to maintain authentication, preferences, and feature state.

Security, hosting, push, and anti-abuse providers may use cookies, local storage, service workers, or similar mechanisms to perform their services. The current website does not use advertising cookies for cross-site behavioral advertising.

7. Email and notifications

Joining the private-beta list asks us to send messages needed to manage that request. Occasional broader product updates require a separate opt-in.

You can unsubscribe from optional email using the link in the message or by making a privacy request. We may retain the minimum information needed to honor an unsubscribe or suppression request. Account, security, privacy-request, or service-critical messages are separate from optional marketing.

If you enable browser push reminders, you can turn them off in your browser or device settings. Turning off notifications does not delete your account or learning records.

8. Retention and deletion

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing the Service, maintaining learning continuity, honoring your choices, protecting security, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations.

Retention depends on the category:

  • Waitlist and communications: kept while the access relationship is active and then removed or minimized when no longer reasonably needed. Minimal suppression information may remain so we do not resume optional email you declined.
  • Low-data website events: kept for a limited measurement and security period, then deleted or aggregated.
  • Account and learning records: kept while needed to provide the account, progress, teaching continuity, and Remembering, or until an eligible deletion request is completed.
  • Submitted source and processing files: treated as processing material rather than a permanent personal file library. Eligible temporary files and raw processing artifacts are assigned expiry/deletion state. Source-safe learning records derived from that work may remain because they support the learning features you asked for.
  • Voice: the audited transcription function does not retain the raw recording in MetiVis storage. The resulting transcript or source-safe learning evidence may be retained like other learner input.
  • Push subscriptions: kept while the subscription is active or needed to process delivery state, then disabled or deleted when no longer needed.
  • Support, privacy, safety, and legal records: kept for a period appropriate to the issue, verification, legal obligation, security need, or dispute.

Deletion from active systems may occur before data expires from limited provider backups or security logs. Some information may be retained when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect security, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, or honor an opt-out. We will limit retained information to that purpose where feasible.

Deleting one course, file, or notification subscription is not the same as deleting an account. Use the privacy-request process if you want us to review information across the website list and learning app. Do not use MetiVis as the only copy of important coursework.

9. Your choices and privacy requests

You may ask us to:

  • provide access to personal information we maintain about you;
  • correct inaccurate personal information;
  • delete eligible personal information;
  • provide a portable copy when applicable and technically feasible;
  • stop optional beta/product-update email;
  • answer a question or consider another privacy right that applies where you live.

We use proportionate verification. Usually this begins by confirming control of the email address associated with the record; additional verification may be needed before we disclose or change account information. Do not send government identification unless we specifically explain why a less intrusive method is insufficient.

We respond within applicable legal deadlines and explain any permitted extension, exception, or additional step. We do not discriminate against you for exercising a legally protected privacy right. Removing information required to operate an account can prevent us from continuing that part of the Service. An authorized agent may submit a request where applicable law permits it, subject to verification of the agent's authority and the user's identity.

10. California disclosures

This section addresses California's online privacy-policy requirements. It also provides a practical summary of categories even if MetiVis does not currently meet every statutory threshold of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Categories, sources, purposes, and recipients

Within the preceding 12 months, depending on use of the Services, we may have collected:

  • Identifiers: email, account identifiers, display name, invitation status, and technical identifiers. Sources: you and service providers. Purposes: access, authentication, support, security, communication. Recipients: hosting, database/authentication, email, support, and security providers.
  • Internet or network activity: page path, referring host, campaign fields, coarse viewport category, feature events, session/security data, and provider request logs. Sources: your browser/device and providers. Purposes: operation, security, debugging, and limited measurement. Recipients: hosting, database, security, and infrastructure providers.
  • User content and education-related activity: assignments, questions, answers, documents, images, links, transcripts, attempts, feedback, and learning activity. Sources: you and the product interactions you request. Purposes: provide and improve teaching and Remembering. Recipients: database/storage, AI/content-processing, transcription, document-processing, and support providers as relevant.
  • Inferences: apparent understanding, gaps, prerequisite evidence, progress, personalization signals, and Remembering state. Sources: your activity and submitted work. Purposes: personalize and evaluate the learning experience. Recipients: application infrastructure and relevant AI/content-processing providers.
  • Preferences and communications: consent choices, timezone, quiet hours, push subscription state, support messages, email delivery and suppression status. Sources: you, your browser, and communication providers. Purposes: honor preferences and deliver requested communications. Recipients: email, push, support, database, and infrastructure providers.

We retain each category using the criteria in Section 8. We do not sell these categories or share them for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics for an unrelated purpose.

Access and correction

Use Section 9 to request access to or correction of personal information we maintain about you.

Material changes

We post an updated effective date when this Policy changes. For a material change affecting an active account or beta relationship, we provide additional notice when appropriate and seek renewed agreement or consent when required.

Do Not Track and preference signals

Some browsers send "Do Not Track" signals, but there is no universally adopted standard that requires one response. Because MetiVis does not currently conduct cross-site behavioral advertising, we do not change site behavior in response to that signal.

MetiVis does not currently sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If a legally recognized opt-out preference signal becomes relevant to a future practice, we will handle it as required by applicable law.

Other parties' collection across sites

Hosting, network, security, email, and anti-abuse providers may receive technical information when their technology delivers or protects the Services. MetiVis does not place third-party advertising trackers on the current website to follow visitors across unrelated services.

11. Students and schools

MetiVis is a direct-to-user learning product and is not a school, accredited institution, or official grading system. Do not submit another person's education records or private school information without authority.

If a school or district later authorizes MetiVis to process education records on its behalf, additional school-specific terms and privacy obligations may apply. This Policy does not claim that every direct consumer account is governed by FERPA or that a school has designated MetiVis as a school official.

12. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. These include access controls and private storage for relevant learning data. No service can guarantee perfect security.

Protect your credentials and tell us promptly at support@metivis.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

13. United States service

The current beta is intended for the United States. MetiVis and its providers may process information in the United States and other locations where they operate. We do not currently represent the beta as a generally available service designed for every jurisdiction.

14. Third-party sites

The Services may link to third-party websites or content. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Following a link is different from MetiVis embedding a third party's advertising tracker.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Services change. We will post the updated Policy with a new effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Service or by email when appropriate.
